Ongoing Response 🏚️ Earthquake 📍 Granada Province, Spain

Spain Earthquake — Granada Region

A note on scale: unlike the other events listed here, this earthquake has not caused any deaths, and injuries have been minor. We’re including it because it’s a real, ongoing situation for the families affected — but we want to be upfront that it is a smaller-scale event than our other listed disasters, not a mass-casualty emergency.

What happened

On August 18, 2026, a shallow earthquake measuring approximately 4.7–4.9 magnitude struck near Gójar and Alhendín in Granada province, Spain, at a depth of roughly 0 km. It followed an earlier 5.0-magnitude quake on August 15 that caused material damage to buildings and vehicles in the area, and has been followed by multiple aftershocks, some above magnitude 4.0. No tsunami warning was issued.

The impact so far

The most recent quake caused three light injuries, including one child who was hospitalized. No deaths have been reported from either this quake or the earlier one. Property damage — to homes and vehicles — has been reported across Granada province and surrounding municipalities, and continued aftershocks mean the situation is still unfolding.

What support could go toward

With aftershocks ongoing, affected households may need structural safety inspections, temporary repairs, and support while the situation stabilizes. As of writing, we’re not aware of a dedicated international relief campaign for this specific event — this page is compiled from news reporting rather than an aid organization’s own appeal, and is offered here for anyone who’d like to support the affected community regardless.

This page is based on news reporting (linked below), not an aid organization’s own donation page — we could not find one for this specific event. It is an independent fundraising page on this site; donations are processed by this site’s own payment provider.

What's Needed

  • Structural safety inspections for damaged homes
  • Temporary repairs for affected buildings
  • Support for the injured and their families
  • Community monitoring during continued aftershocks
