There are a lot of useful gear sets in Fallout 4 that players should look for.
Getting through Fallout 4’s post-nuclear world has a lot of effects. Some good layers of armor, medical supplies, and a few reliable guns are all things that a survivor should bring on their journey through the Commonwealth. They need to protect themselves from the claws, energy blasts, bullets, and other dangerous objects that are trying to end their adventure. Yes, of course… This sentence is all about the word “good.”
In the ruined America after the war, not every piece of armor is the same. It’s easy to get confused when there are so many choices. Some handy tips can really help. In Fallout 4, these are the best sets of armor that caps can buy. The only things that are talked about here are real metal sets. Power Armor is in a league of its own, and clothes that have been changed to wear under ballistic weave are in a different group.
Mantis Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Left Arm | 8.7 | 15 | 23 |
Left Leg | 7.8 | 16 | 23 |
As players explore the world at their own pace, they will get some stock armor sets. However, the Sole Survivor can also get a lot of unique armor pieces that are great to use on their own. The Mantis Armor is one of these sets with only two pieces. It can be bought from Lucas Miller, a traveling salesman, as players head through the Commonwealth.
When players hit an enemy with their left arm, they have a small chance of taking away their weapon. The left leg also gives the Sole Survivor a small boost to their Perception and Agility. The Mantis Armor may not be the strongest gear, but it’s a good set to have early on if you want to get some good benefits before going on to better gear.
Protector’s Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Left Arm | 6.0 | 10 | 16 |
Right Arm | 5.1 | 8 | 13 |
When you first start playing Fallout 4, the enemies can be very tough. They will hit hard, and the Sole Survivor will have to either run away or cheat the enemy AI to barely make it through these fights. It can be fun to use these methods at first, but after a while, it gets old to fight the same basic enemies over and over again with no break.
If a player is having trouble in Diamond City, they should go to the market and look for a man named Arturo Rodriguez. He sells the Protector’s armor set. Even though it only has two arms, the low weight and lower damage from humans and Super Mutants make it worth checking out for players who are really having a hard time in battle.
Metal Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Torso | 23.1 | 37 | 25 |
Left Arm | 12.8 | 22 | 13 |
Left Leg | 12.8 | 22 | 13 |
Right Arm | 12.8 | 22 | 13 |
Right Leg | 12.8 | 22 | 13 |
It might be hard for some players to understand why Metal Armor is on this list, since it’s common and easy to find once a player has a few levels and starts fighting tougher human enemies or looting containers in high-level places. But that doesn’t change the fact that players will still be amazed by how high-rated this armor is when they get it for the first time.
Get a full set of Metal Armor early in the game. It will help the Sole Survivor’s defense, even if the set itself isn’t very special. Even though players can change this set of armor later, the Metal Armor is a popular and safe choice for many because it works well and is easy to find.
Robot Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Torso | 23.1 | 39 | 30 |
Left Arm | 12.8 | 23 | 18 |
Left Leg | 12.8 | 23 | 13 |
Right Arm | 12.8 | 23 | 18 |
Right Leg | 12.8 | 23 | 13 |
The Automatron DLC is a great addition to Fallout 4. A lot of new stuff has been added in this expansion pack, which players will love exploring. The new enemies in this DLC are also very scary. The Rust Devils are a well-known raider gang that was added with this extra pack.
This group is crazy about finding robot parts. They even made a whole set of armor out of old robot parts. Even stranger is the fact that this robot protection works really well and stops most of the damage that players take. The grade for the whole set is very good.
Pack Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Torso | 19 | 43 | 43 |
Left Arm | 11 | 18 | 18 |
Left Leg | 11 | 19 | 19 |
Right Arm | 11 | 18 | 18 |
Right Leg | 11 | 19 | 19 |
When we talk about DLCs, Nuka-World is another add-on that comes with Fallout 4. It starts one of the more interesting side quests, where players take charge of three whole gangs and decide how they run Nuka-World Amusement Park. After this point, players can even take over the whole Commonwealth if they want to.
The Pack Armor, which comes in both light and heavy versions, is also added in this DLC. The second one is what players should look for if they want the most safety. Still, the light armor looks kind of silly, which makes it fun to use if players want to.
Operators Heavy Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Torso | 19 | 27 | 27 |
Left Arm | 10 | 13 | 13 |
Left Leg | 10 | 14 | 14 |
Right Arm | 10 | 13 | 13 |
Right Leg | 10 | 14 | 14 |
It might not be the most attractive set of armor this side of the wasteland, but it works when you can’t get something more stylish right away. The high level of protection from both ballistic and energy harm is about even. Players could do a lot worse.
The Operators set is part of the Nuka-World DLC and can be bought from dealers or a player who has taken out an Operators member. There are two style variations that are only different in how they look. Neither looks especially attractive, but it’s nice to have choices.
Rescue Diver Suit

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Armor Suit | 8 | 10 | 10 |
If you’ve unlocked the Far Harbor DLC, you need this fancy suit. Unlike the Power Armor, it’s very mobile, and it lets you explore underwater places without having to keep coming up to fill up your breath meter.
While it doesn’t offer much in the way of Damage and Energy Resistance, it does offer a strong 250 Resistance to Radiation. This boost helps a lot for players who are walking through areas with a lot of radiation or dirty underwater areas.
Players must finish The Changing Tides quest in order to get the Rescue Diver Suit.
Apocalypse Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Torso | 25.3 | 37 | 40 |
Left Leg | 13.1 | 23 | 14 |
The Apocalypse Armor is something that players who are in a lot of stressful battles might want to think about. There are only two pieces in this set: a chest plate and a left greave. However, the effects and benefits of these two pieces are so strong that players can make themselves twice as strong in battle by wearing them alone.
With the Martyr effect on the chest plate, time will slow down in battle whenever the player’s health drops to 20% or less. This works with the left greave’s Bolstering effect, which helps the player’s energy and damage resistance go up as their health goes down (this can stack up to 35 times).
The Apocalypse armor box can be taken from a Scribe who used to work in an armor shop, and the helmet can be taken from a Vault-Tec Rep who is now a store clerk.
Devastator’s Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Torso | 28.4 | 44 | 31 |
Right Leg | 15.0 | 27 | 17 |
In Fallout 4, Goodneighbor is a great place to spend a lot of time because players can explore the area, finish quests, and find John Hancock to be their friend. Talk to the sellers and check out what they have to offer. It’s funny that the best gear for sale here is two pieces of the Devastator’s Armor from an assaultron named KL-E-0.
Even though the resistances are pretty good on their own, the buffs on each piece are what really make this armor set stand out. The main chest armor bounces some physical damage back at an enemy that isn’t expecting it. The right leg’s perk slows time, which helps players stay alive when their health is below 20% by letting them fire a few critical shots or use a stimpak quickly.
Combat Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Head | 4 | 10 | 10 |
Torso | 45.5 | 101 | 101 |
When it comes to defense, combat armor is the best “middle of the road” set. It will work well almost anywhere in Wordle Unlimited, as long as players replace the pieces with better ones as they become available.
The pieces are easy to find and offer strong defense against both bullets and energy attacks. What does the heavy variant of the torso slot make the survivor look like? A strange two-legged turtle. But in the Fallout world, there are worse things to look like.
Mechanist’s Armor Set

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Body | 20 | 72 | 72 |
Head | 1 | 13 | 13 |
The charming Mechanist’s Armor set can be chosen by those who want their armor to have a little more style. It will turn the player into a strange robot that looks like it came from a 1950s sci-fi movie. It looks like an old toy and reminds me a lot of Sci-Fi movies from that time.
Along with that, it provides pretty good defense. When worn together, the armor set and cap give the player a healthy 85 Damage and Energy Resistance. That makes it the perfect armor for fighting enemies in a fast-paced battle. It also gives the person an extra 1 Intelligence and Charisma. It’s not a big boost, but it’s nice to have.
Players must finish the Restoring Order quest in order to get this cool-looking armor.
Synth Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Head | 3 | 9 | 11 |
Torso | 17 | 37 | 42 |
Left Arm | 10 | 17 | 20 |
Left Leg | 10 | 16 | 19 |
Right Arm | 10 | 17 | 20 |
Right Leg | 10 | 16 | 19 |
With its sleek, futuristic look, synth armor is in the same category as battle armor. But it manages to get ahead a little, giving a little better defense from all sources.
The title and look of the item make it clear that you can get the armor from synth troops. Setting up a fourth-tier armor vendor in one of their towns or going to see The Institute’s synth requisition officer will also do for those who’d rather spend their hard-earned caps than go on a robot killing spree. You can get a realistic mod if you want to; the Synth armor will fit right in.
Disciples Metal Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance |
---|---|---|---|
Torso | 33 | 44 | 54 |
Left Arm | 19 | 19 | 21 |
Left Leg | 19 | 20 | 22 |
Right Arm | 19 | 19 | 21 |
Right Leg | 19 | 20 | 22 |
The Disciples’ metal armor is strange because it doesn’t get damaged by energy weapons like most metal armor does. It actually has a little better energy resistance than the other two raider clan-specific armor sets that came with the Nuka-World DLC, but it gives up very little in terms of explosive defense.
It makes sense that the best way to get the Disciples Metal Armor is from dead disciples. However, if you’d rather not step on anyone’s toes, you can also buy it from Nuka-World sellers. What fun is that, though?Get some fusion cores and let this armor do its thing.
Marine Armor

Slot | Weight | Damage Resistance | Energy Resistance | Radiation Resistance |
---|---|---|---|---|
Head | 95 | 159 | 158 | 60 |
Torso | 19 | 38 | 38 | 0 |
Left Arm | 10 | 17 | 17 | 0 |
Left Leg | 10 | 18 | 18 | 0 |
Right Arm | 10 | 17 | 17 | 0 |
Right Leg | 10 | 18 | 18 | 0 |
If you don’t count power armor, Marine Armor is the best armor for all kinds of defense. This is the set to get if you want the best. It has better resistance to damage from all directions and a little extra radiation resistance on top of that.
In the Far Harbor DLC, you can get this one. To get the whole set, you have to complete DiMA’s Best Left Forgotten questline. Some people are less honest and will take it off the bodies of Children of Atom zealots. It can also be bought in small pieces from sellers in the Nucleus. This suit is what you should wear when you want to use the best power changes.
